From AFib to Finish Lines: My Story
Hello, I am John Hetlage. Many people don’t know my full story, but just a few years ago, I was in a very different place. The photo on the left was taken on May 19, 2022. At the time, I was out of shape, struggling with my health, and unable to run even a short distance without pain.
In 2021, I underwent a cardiac ablation to treat atrial fibrillation. Recovery was tough, and for a while, even climbing stairs felt like a challenge. But I knew I needed to make a change. Not just for my physical health, but for my confidence and quality of life.
I started by walking a few miles almost every day. Eventually, I tried jogging just a short distance. It was uncomfortable and humbling, but I stuck with it. I alternated between walking and jogging, slowly building up my stamina and mental resilience. Each small step forward added up. From walking daily, to completing 5Ks, then half marathons, and eventually full marathons.
Pace Pal was born out of this journey. It’s about more than fitness! It’s about showing up for yourself, staying consistent, and having someone by your side who believes in your ability to keep moving forward.
What Guides Us: The PCLS Framework
Pace Pal isn’t just about movement, it’s about meaningful progress. That’s why we follow the PCLS framework, which guides every session, service, and step we take together:
P – Pace

C – Comfort Level
We prioritize how you feel. Whether you’re easing back into movement or pushing your limits, sessions are designed to match your comfort and confidence.
L – Location
We come to you. Whether it’s your favorite trail, a local park, or your own neighborhood, sessions happen where you feel most comfortable and inspired to move.
S – Support
Progress is personal, and we’re here to support yours. Whether you’re chasing a fitness goal, reclaiming your health, or just getting back outside. We’ve got your back!
